Choosing a rug depends on both the room it will be used in and the desired atmosphere and style of the decor. To make sure your new rug looks its best, choosing the right size is crucial. But what are the size options and which is the right choice for your living room, bedroom and dining room?
What rug size fits which sofa?
If you have a large sofa corner or even a corner sofa, you can perfectly set it off with a large rug. If your living room is a bit smaller, a medium-sized rug will do. For a 3-seater, rugs in sizes 250 x 350 cm or 200 x 300 cm are the perfect choice for you. In small rooms with a smaller sofa, it is recommended to place the rug right in front of your couch. The ideal rug size for a two-person sofa is 170 x 240 cm or 150 x 200 cm. Place only a few pieces of furniture, such as your coffee table, directly on the rug. This creates a tidy look and makes the room appear larger.
What rug size fits which bed?
If you have a spacious bedroom with a large bed and want to feel comfortable all around, an appropriately sized rug is the perfect choice for you! Place your bed and nightstands completely on the rug, making sure to leave an even border all around. For a slightly smaller bed and bedroom, a correspondingly smaller rug will suffice. Here, position only the front legs of your bed on the rug, while nightstand and other furniture pieces can stand directly on the floor. Another nice alternative is runners, which are placed directly in front of or next to the bed. Again, the rug size depends on the width of your bed. And if you ever need a breath of fresh air, the runner is certainly also excellent in your entrance area.
What rug size fits which dining table?
For dining tables that seat up to eight people, large rugs with a minimum size of 170 x 240 cm are suitable. If your dining group consists of about six dining chairs, a rug measuring 200 x 300 cm or 250 x 350 cm is sufficient. Be sure to choose the right size rug so that it covers the entire area of the dining table and chairs without the chair legs protruding over it. This will ensure smooth movement and sitting, and prevent the rug from being an obstacle every time you get up.
