The city of Shiraz is located in the province of Fars. The rich culture of Shiraz with its endless gardens, the graves of the poets and the ruins of Persepolis is one of the most important cultural contemporary witnesses in Iran. Shiraz is also an important center for nomad rugs. Various nomad strains, mainly Gashgai, live around the city of Shiraz. The rugs of these nomads are often traded as Shiraz rugs on the bazaar. The traditional design consists of a hook -decorated hexagon that lies on a reason with smaller elements such as animals, plants, humans and geometric patterns that are scattered in the background. Typical for a Shiraz rug is that the chain, which can be seen as fringes at both ends of the rug, mostly consists of wool and not like most other cotton rugs. Shiraz often occurs in warmer colors such as red, brown, dark blue and black.
