Petrified Wood Tray M
Product information "Petrified Wood Tray M"
Petrified wood is the result of a tree that has been completely transformed into stone through the process of permineralization. All organic material (i.e. wood) has been replaced by minerals (usually a silicate, such as quartz), while retaining the original structure of the trunk tissue. Petrified wood is therefore a three-dimensional image of the original organic material. The petrification process occurs underground when wood is buried under sediment and initially preserved due to a lack of oxygen, which inhibits aerobic decomposition. Mineral-rich water flowing through the sediment deposits minerals in the plant's cells; when the plant's lignin and cellulose decompose, a boletus forms in their place. Petrified wood is 6 to even 20 million years old. Petrified wood is a natural material. Therefore, large variations in color and structure can occur.
