Product information "Kelim Afshar"
The Afshar are Turkic-speaking nomadic tribes who migrated to the areas around Kerman in the 16th century. The rugs they produce have patterns that show influences from their own traditions and designs from the city of Kerman. The Kelim Afshar are known for their quite geometric designs, which often show up in stripes and abstracted diamond patterns. Figurative symbols of animals and people may also appear in Kelim Afshar. In addition, the weavers use the special Sumak technique, which means that flatweaves are embroidered. Thus, a fine profile rises from the kilim, showing the pattern.
